Caring in Bristol is proud to have a voluntary trustee board that is thoroughly committed to the highest standards of governance, to innovative thinking, and to delivering impactful work. Our trustees provide overall insight, strategic direction, and are responsible for making sure we achieve our mission, vision, and adhere to our values. They meet regularly and diligently oversee everything from our finances to our policies and can often be found on the ground, helping us to deliver our work.

"Before retiring I was running my own company working in Change Management, implementing finance and I.T. systems. I wanted to share what I had learnt through experience and contribute to my community, just as Caring in Bristol needed a new Treasurer.  I was attracted to the way Caring in Bristol was developing strategies to prevent homelessness especially for young people.

"I was Treasurer for three years during which time Caring in Bristol went through huge changes and expanded the services we provide.

"I am now Chair of Trustees heading up a Board of experienced and involved Trustees. We are here to support and advise our excellent and passionate staff and volunteers in not only running the Charity but planning for a future where homelessness and insecure housing can be dealt with quickly and compassionately in our City."

"I had been volunteering for Caring in Bristol for 10 years before joining the board. I feel that we all have a responsibility to help those in our community and build a city where everyone has access to safe and secure housing, as well as a network of support, and a sense of hope. My own values align deeply with those of Caring in Bristol and I feel strongly that I should continue to offer support in the hopes that my contributions may make even a small difference to those who need it. I also hope to be a representative for the hundreds of volunteers who help the charity every year, ensuring that everyone feels valued."

"I have over a decade’s experience working within the charity sector. I am currently Head of Marketing & Brand at Drinkaware, the UK's leading alcohol charity. I have previously worked in the homelessness sector, and drug and alcohol treatment. Being passionate about homelessness, I joined the Caring in Bristol Board to make an impact on homelessness in the community. I bring communications, marketing, and fundraising expertise to the Board."

"I am Bristol born and bred so I feel a real connection to Caring in Bristol which started out as a homegrown, community focused project, and continues to be to this day. Having worked in the housing sector for over 10 years as well as benefiting from homelessness prevention services in my teens, I appreciate just how crucial these services are and the positive impact we can have on an individual’s life.  I truly believe that how we treat the most vulnerable in our society is a reflection on humanity as a whole, and I am proud to support Caring in Bristol’s fantastic work."

"I experienced homelessness in Bristol myself in my late teens and understand how tough it can be when you are alone, have nowhere to live, and no support. It took me a long time to recover so I understand that the diverse work Caring in Bristol do is critical. One of my daughters suggested we volunteer for the Caring at Christmas project about five years ago. We were able to see first-hand the incredible impact the organisation has on those experiencing homelessness and I have continued to volunteer ever since. Organisations like this were not around when I experienced homelessness so having spent the last 25 years working in the housing and homelessness sector, it is a real privilege now to lend some of my personal and professional experience as a trustee with Caring in Bristol."

"I  have previously worked in the homelessness and housing sector with the Big Issue South West, as a trustee during the development and opening of Bristol Foyer, and as a trustee of Citizens Advice Bristol, so I have had a long commitment to helping improve the lives of people facing homelessness. So it was a fairly  natural progression to become involved with Caring in Bristol, initially as a volunteer in the Caring at Christmas project in 2019 and shortly after volunteering during the Covid pandemic delivering food across the city as part of the successful Cheers Drive project.  In 2022 I decided to see if my  knowledge and experience of being a trustee in three other charities would be of any value to Caring in Bristol.

"As well as my experience of working in the housing and homelessness sector, I have also worked for the last 30 years in the wider not-for-profit sector in a range of executive management, freelance consultancy, and trustee roles. I have particular experience and knowledge of charity governance, strategy development, business planning, evaluation and impact measurement, and change management.

"I have been a trustee of Caring in Bristol since early 2022. I have also volunteered at Caring at Christmas every year since 2019 (so just a novice compared with many volunteers!)"

"When I moved to the UK with my young family ten years ago, Bristol quickly became our home. We fell in love with the city’s energy, diversity and community spirit.

"I have always wanted to give something back to the place that welcomed us, and when I saw the opportunity to join Caring in Bristol as Treasurer, it felt like the perfect way to contribute. With over 20 years of experience in finance, I am passionate about using my skills to support the charity’s mission to reduce homelessness in Bristol.

"As a mother of two teenagers, I am also deeply aware of the challenges young people face today and am inspired by the dedication and impact Caring in Bristol has in addressing these critical issues."
